Daily Diary 21: Uvalde TX to San Antonio - 75 miles and 1500 ft climbing

Updated: Mar 26, 2019

Three weeks on the road!! It has gone by so fast! A reminder to slow it down and enjoy the moment. It is easy to focused on the task at hand, getting to the destination and surviving that long day on the bike but you need to pick your head up and look around. I am guilty of that and I need to be better about taking in everything. Today was a pretty straight forward day, 75 miles, straight down hwy 90. Some rolling hills but little wind. It is clear I am getting back to civilization, the road are definitely more active. 90 is a very busy road now but with a wide shoulder so I popped in my music and bombed along. Unfortunately most of 90 (all the way from west Texas) is crappy chip and seal pavement with way more “chip” than “seal” - read: bumpy rocky shoulder, which slows a bike down and loosens my fillings. Come on Texas, pave your roads better!  Not a lot to report today other than how the vegetation has changed. Amazing, only a couple hundred miles and goodbye desert, hello trees, bushes, and grass! I also hit the urban sprawl of San Antonio which was a little depressing. Tomorrow is 100 miles that starts with greenway through the outskirts of San Antonio  which will be nice then up to Austin to meet friends and enjoy a rest day. Key being “resting” rather than raging on Rainey street.... Hmmmmmm. Happy St Patty’s Day!!
