Sure felt like I peddled to the top today! What was supposed to be a relatively easy day, 30 miles, was a lot harder than expected. First, my legs we feeling yesterday’s 100 mile climb into the foothills and didn’t have the snap they should have. Second, the climb out of Superior was straight up, right out of town, with no reprieve for the first 15 miles. Added to that was a nice stiff head wind all the way up, and virtually no shoulder, so semis were flying by nice and close (I think the energy I lost stressing about that was the worst part!). But I made it to Globe (a lot hillier town than expected!) by lunch. Unfortunately, my hotel was at the other end, and 1.5 miles outside town, and of course up another hill (which necessitated a stop at DQ for a Blizzard fuel up to punch it home)! But it is a beautiful view and very nice hotel so worth it! After a medicinal beer and a nap, I am feeling better. Tomorrow is 75 miles to Stafford AZ, some climbing and more downhill which shouldn’t be too bad.
