Week 1 wrapped!

Updated: Mar 24, 2019

Freeman has successfully completed his first week of his journey. The best (or worst) part of this journey: the typical weekend doesn't exist! The road decides your days off and your body decides when you can continue.

What a first week it was. If you've been keeping up with the daily diaries or Vlog posts you know what some of the obstacles he's been faced with thus far. From the grueling biking, to the less than optimal sleeping arrangements, Freeman has had quite a week.

He has traveled over 400 miles, through mountains, carrying everything he needs to survive on his back and bike. Carrying himself and his 22 lb bike and 30 lbs of gear all that way, he burns over 8000 calories a week. That leads me to dads favorite part of the his adventure so far. THE FOOD. There was one day he couldn't find any food all day, o the agony. To recover, he ate the biggest burrito you've ever seen, followed by two, you heard me TWO massive burgers. All in a days work says Freeman.

So you might ask what my dad is doing at night to decompress and recuperate from the day, and get ready for the next days journey. Water, healthy fuel, and sleep? More like beer, as much food as possible and searching for bed bugs in whatever motel he booked for the night. Late nights at the bar don't slow my dad down! at least not yet.. near the end of last week the days seemed to get shorter, and he was early to sleep.

After a long week of sleeping in sub optimal beds and sitting on a tiny bike seat all day, my older sister Hannah decided to he needed an upgrade. Goodbye motel 6, hello 5 star hotel and spa! To finish off the week, Freeman made it to a friends place (shout out Dave and Susan) for some much needed relaxation and company! Lucky for all of us concerned about him making it to Florida alive, he gave himself a day off.
